Acts 2:40— And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

Peter’s exhortation after preaching on the day of Pentecost was to “save yourselves”. As Christians we understand that we cannot “save” ourselves and that faith in the blood of Jesus cleanses us from our sins.  But yet we need to know that we were created with the will to make choices; good or bad. After we experience the saving power of Jesus Christ by obeying “the Gospel” which,  according to 1 Corinthians 15, is the death, burial and resurrection; repentance, water baptism in Jesus’ Name, and the infilling of the Holy Spirit we need to make choices that reflect what has taken place in our lives.

It is important that we live life on purpose and not be moved by the winds of change in our world.  Ephesians 4:14, That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.

There are voices in the modern “church” that say Jesus did it all therefore I don’t have to do anything.  We need to know who we are and what we believe by standing firm on the word of God. It matters what I do and the choices that I make.

Hebrews 12:14  Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. Holiness is essential  to my life. Without it I cannot see the Lord. Holiness is not what I do to “get saved” but it is what I do because “I am saved”. It is about pleasing the Lord. Obeying His Word.  Jesus said in John 14:15, if you love me keep my commandments.

To live holy is to be in obedience to His Word. I am set apart for His purpose and plan.  1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

You belong to Jesus Christ. Your lifestyle should reflect Him. Live life on purpose. Be proactive. Save yourself from this untoward generation.
